A very potty birthday

I almost forgot, today is July 31, which we all know to be the birthday of both Joanne Katherine Rowling, and her creation, Harry Potter. JKR turns the big 40 today (and proves that beautiful is beautiful at any age), while, according to scientorfic research, reaches a quarter-century.

Once again, not everyone is all sunshiny about Potter, which is a shame, because I do like Terry Pratchett.

So who's ready to join me in comments to talk about the book? I think Dumbledore..

...isn't dead!

(opening the Chamber of Spoilers)

...ordered Snape to kill him. While it does appear all around that Dumbledore was wrong about Snape, perhaps it's just the opposite--Dumbledore had ordered Snape to spy on the Death Eaters, and he would most likely have told him to do whatever it takes to preserve his cover--including kill him, especially since he made the unbreakable vow to protect Draco Malfoy.

Dumbledore said to Voldemort in book 5 that there are worse things than death. I think he's prepared to sacrifice his life, if it means ending Voldemort's reign.

Of course, I could be wrong, and Snape could be a right bastard after all. After all, I thought for most of the book that Dumbledore was already dead, and was under the Inferius curse from Snape, so what do I know?

What has Snape ever done before this since turning on the death eaters that would say that he's bad? Nothing. Sure he isn't too fond of Potter, but that's a different story...

I think that Dumbledore had a horcrux inside him and that's why he was killed. I doubt, though, that he made any since it'd mean that he would have had to murder someone.

And according to the timeline you sent out HP would have turned 25 today.

But it puts Hermione at younger than Harry and in the last book that wasn't so... Aparition test. Wonder where if it's a contradiction in the book.

Has Hermione's birthday ever been established? IIRC, book 6 is the first mention of Ron's birthday, which I guess just happened "offscreen" in the other books. One of those things that I wonder if JKR has in her notes, or just kinda figured it out when she felt she needed it.

According to book 6 she's older than Harry, but younger than Ron.

MY THEORIES.
HARRY IS THE LAST HORCRUX.
I AGREE SNAPE IS PROBABLY NOT ON VOLDEMORTS SIDE AS WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE.
AUNT PETUNIA WILL HAVE A BIGGER ROLE IN THE LAST BOOK. AGAIN, NOT WHO WEVE BEN LED TO BELIEVE SHE IS.

SO THERE.

>>HARRY IS THE LAST HORCRUX.

Interesting, interesting...puts a new twist on the prophecy. Makes one wonder if Voldy's attack on Harry as a baby was a feint.

I'm reading the book again now. I paid special attention to Snape taking the Unbreakable Vow, and Narcissa asks him specifically "will you do the deed that the Dark Lord has ordered Draco to perform?" That could mean killing Dumbledore, or simply using the cabinets to let the Death Eaters into Hogwarts.

I was intrigued in OoTP to see that Petunia knew more about the magical world than she had let on. There was less about that this time, one of the many threads I was disappointed to see fall by the wayside. So, out of curiosity, what kind of role do you think she will play?
